Intimate hygiene care during the summer: what is important to know?

On hot days, our bodies – including our intimate areas – sweat more, so it’s important to pay extra attention to cleanliness, comfort, and prevention during the summer. We share the most important recommendations that will help you avoid discomfort and unpleasant situations.

🌊 1. Relax in the water – only with careful care. Although swimming is refreshing in the summer, water bodies are full of bacteria. A long stay in the water can provoke urinary tract or vaginal inflammation. After each swim, it is recommended to immediately wash and change into dry underwear and clothes.

🩲 2. A dry swimsuit is a must. Don't leave a wet swimsuit on your body for too long. Moisture and heat create perfect conditions for fungus and bacteria to grow. Always have a spare pair of underwear and change after swimming.

🧻 3. Suitable intimate hygiene products – no compromises. In the summer, it is especially important to choose gentle, natural products specifically for the intimate area. Avoid products with fragrances or aggressive ingredients – they can irritate the mucous membrane and change the pH balance. It is ideal if they contain lactic acid, prebiotics or probiotics.

🩱 4. Tampons after swimming. If you use tampons while swimming, they must be changed immediately after getting out of the water. Wet tampons are the most direct route to infection. An alternative is a menstrual cup, which maintains hygiene for longer.

🪒 5. Shaving mistakes are common but easily avoidable. Shave your bikini area only on clean, damp skin, using a gentle lather. Avoid shaving dry skin or using old razors - this irritates the skin and can cause rashes.

🧴 6. No regular soap for the intimate area. The skin in the intimate area is extremely sensitive. Avoid soaps or shower gels that are not suitable for this area. Special, dermatologically tested intimate hygiene cleansers with a balanced pH are best.

👖 7. Let your skin breathe. Tight jeans or synthetic clothing are not the best choice in the hot season. They do not allow the skin to breathe, rub and cause sweating, which promotes irritation or inflammation. Choose light, breathable clothing made of natural fabrics (linen, cotton).

💦 8. Wash and dry – gently. In the summer, it is important to wash the intimate area at least 2 times a day – with warm water or a mild cleanser. After washing, dry thoroughly but gently – no rubbing! Patting with a towel will help prevent microcracks and irritation.

🚨 9. Don't ignore the signals. Itching, burning, abnormal discharge, or discomfort are clear signs that your body is sending you a signal. Don't delay - consult a doctor, especially if the symptoms recur.

🚫 10. Forget synthetic underwear. Summer is the time for natural cotton. Synthetic underwear does not absorb sweat and secretions well, which causes the skin to overheat, become irritated, and create a breeding ground for infections. Cotton underwear allows the skin to breathe and keeps it dry.
